March 2025 Microsoft Photos Update Now Available for Windows Insiders

Microsoft has today begun the rollout of a significant update for the Microsoft Photos app aimed at Windows 11 and Windows 10 Insider users in the preview channel. This update, which will be implemented gradually, brings a series of improvements and new features that promise to enhance the user experience.

One of the standout features is the incorporation of advanced Optical Character Recognition (OCR) functionality that now supports over 160 languages. This innovative tool allows users to extract text from images and documents easily, highlighting the recognized text to facilitate selection and copying. In addition to this feature, a “Search the web” option has been added, allowing users to directly search from the selected text within the application.

The update also enhances access to editing through artificial intelligence and visual search. Now users can right-click on an image to select different options, such as “Create with Designer,” which allows them to add text or improve the composition of the image, or use “Bing Visual Search” to find related images and products.

The browsing experience in the Photos Gallery is enriched with the option to display images and videos from subfolders, giving users greater control over the visualization of their content through different filters. Additionally, a new Copilot button has been introduced within the application, offering tips on photo editing, information about the images, and framing suggestions, further facilitating the creative process.

Users will also see requested improvements incorporated, such as support for JXL files, and various bug fixes that optimize the overall performance of the application.

To benefit from these improvements, users must update their application to version 2025.11030.20006.0 or higher through the Microsoft Store. It is worth noting that this update is currently in the process of deployment, so it may not be immediately available for all users. Microsoft has invited Insiders to share their feedback on the update through the Feedback Hub, in order to continue improving their products.
