Microsoft Photos gets powered up with new editing abilities driven by Microsoft Designer AI

Microsoft has announced a new update for the Microsoft Photos app, which introduces even closer integration with Microsoft Designer, allowing users to utilize artificial intelligence (AI) to edit photos directly within the app. This update is already available on Windows 11 and is starting to roll out to all Insider channels.

The integration of AI in Microsoft Photos gives users a new way to edit and customize their images without the need for design skills. By clicking the “Edit with Designer” button, the photo will open in Designer, directly within the Photos app, making it easy to refine and reimagine photos without needing to leave the workflow.

The artificial intelligence automatically detects objects in the image, allowing users to easily customize it. It will be possible to erase objects, create portraits with blurred backgrounds, add creative effects like color pop, enhance visual impact with automatic cropping, and use new text and markup features to bring creative ideas to life. In addition, usual editing features like filters and adjustments are still available.

This new functionality is currently limited to users with the Windows display language set to English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, or Portuguese (Brazil) and is available in most countries. To try out Designer’s AI functions, it is necessary to sign in with a free personal Microsoft account, which will also allow for automatically saving edits to continue later.

To enjoy this new experience in Photos, users must update the app to version 2024.11070.12001.0 or higher. Microsoft appreciates feedback and suggestions through the Feedback Hub (WIN + F) under the Apps > Photos section.

Yvonne Hsieh, Principal PM Manager of Windows Photos, expressed her gratitude and reiterated the importance of user feedback to continue improving the Microsoft Photos experience.
