In a challenging display of efficiency and determination, the regional operator Avanza Fibra has managed to restore telecommunications services in Valencia after the devastating passage of the DANA, which destroyed the infrastructure of more than 200,000 Real Estate Units (UUII) and caused the total loss of seven stores, as well as significant damage to its technological center in Catarroja.
The meteorological phenomenon hit the so-called “ground zero” area hard, leaving the company with estimated losses of more than 4.3 million euros. The network repair, which includes the complete reconstruction of 39,000 UUII, represents one of the most considerable expenses, amounting to almost 2 million euros. Although the data center was flooded with almost two meters of water, the damaged content of the facility is valued at 1.2 million euros.
However, through a rapid mobilization, Avanza Fibra was able to restore the fiber optic service in just 48 hours, thanks to a technical team that traveled from Murcia. A significant effort, considering that the fiber connections in the stone bridge in Picanya had been severely affected, turning it into an extraordinary technical challenge. In addition, the streets were blocked with piled vehicles, further complicating the work to reconnect the network.
The economic impact for the company not only includes material losses, but also a considerable increase in costs for the days without service, which would exceed 700,000 euros. This includes lost revenue, customer and business losses, as well as the halt in growth in the most affected areas.
Avanza Fibra, specialized in expanding fiber optic networks and internet and mobile phone services, currently operates in more than 150 towns in the provinces of Granada, Almería, Murcia, Alicante, Valencia, Albacete and Cuenca, with a well-distributed portfolio of 70 customer service stores. This diversity and reach allow for a long-term recovery in the dynamic field of telecommunications.
