The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has taken a significant step towards the modernization of the railway system in Madrid with the inauguration of the new high-speed lobby at Madrid Chamartín Clara Campoamor station. This Wednesday, citizens were able to firsthand learn about the renovated facilities, which now have almost double the original surface area. The expanded lobby offers 4,600 square meters, 2,000 more than before, which will allow for a more efficient handling of the growing flow of passengers and significantly improve their experience.
The expansion is not only limited to the lobby, but also extends to the essential infrastructure for the high-speed train. Two new platforms and four additional tracks have been added, which have entered into operation after receiving the necessary approval from the State Railway Safety Agency (AESF). This development marks the beginning of a comprehensive remodeling planned for the station and its surroundings, an ambitious project that focuses on modernizing and enhancing one of the key points of railway transport in the capital.
This renovation has been made possible thanks to European funding, which has played a crucial role in modifying security facilities, as well as updating communication and energy systems in the high-speed area. The funds were obtained from the European Union’s Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan, known as NextGenerationEU, a program aimed at promoting sustainable development and modernizing critical infrastructures throughout the European region.
The modernization of Madrid Chamartín Clara Campoamor station is part of the Spanish government’s strategy to promote sustainable mobility and improve the public transportation system. This strategy aims to offer a more efficient service, adapted to the future needs of citizens, and underscores the country’s commitment to sustainability and innovation in the field of transportation.
