New Preview of Windows 11 Build 27686 in the Canary Channel

Microsoft has released today the Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 27686 for the Canary Channel. This update introduces new features and significant improvements, although some known issues are also noted that users should be aware of, especially those using Copilot+ PCs.

In this new build, the introduction of Windows Sandbox Client Preview is highlighted, which is now updatable via the Microsoft Store. This preview version includes features such as clipboard redirection at runtime, audio and video input control, and the ability to share folders with the host. Additionally, an early version of command line support has been added, accessible through the ‘wsb.exe -help’ command.

Several functionalities have been optimized in changes and improvements. For example, some elements that were previously available to Insiders in the Canary Channel may temporarily disappear, but they are planned to return over time. Optimizations have also been made to improve battery life on computers running Build 27686+, and users are asked to provide feedback if they notice any unexpected performance.

In terms of settings, a button has been added to detach virtual hard drives (VHD/VHDx) under “Settings > System > Storage > Disks and Volumes,” simplifying the process for users. Additionally, to evaluate possible network performance improvements, devices will be able to run network tests periodically.

Another significant change is the increase of the FAT32 size limit from 32GB to 2TB when formatting disks from the command line.

The update also resolves several issues, including those related to Dev Drive, where virtual hard drives were not automatically remounted, and the battery icon misalignment on the lock screen. Issues with the Windows Security app and the Registry Editor have also been fixed.

Among the known issues, there is a concern with Copilot+ PCs, where users may lose their PIN and biometric authentication methods, although the PIN can be reset. Additionally, the emoji panel may unexpectedly close when switching between sections.

Finally, Canary Channel Insiders are reminded that these versions represent early changes in the platform’s development and are not necessarily linked to a specific Windows release. Features may vary, be removed, or modified over time. To exit the Canary Channel, a clean installation of Windows 11 is required.
