New Space in Valencia: The SSVP Launches a Support Project for People with Mental Health Issues

The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul (SSVP) will inaugurate its new headquarters in Valencia on July 3, focusing on supporting people with mental health issues, as well as those who suffer from psychosocial or intellectual disabilities. This new space, promoted by the Padre Jofré Conference, was created in response to a growing social need in the realm of emotional and community care.

The headquarters will offer bi-weekly group sessions led by professionals from the Psychosocial Network, with which SSVP has signed a collaboration agreement. These activities are designed for individuals in vulnerable situations and their families, addressing fundamental aspects such as self-esteem development, emotional management, and social skills, all in a supportive environment.

Francisco Rodríguez, president of the Padre Jofré Conference, emphasized the importance of “closeness, human connection, and active support” in this care model aimed at restoring the trust of those facing stigma and social isolation. To ensure effective intervention, the initiative will collaborate with the Municipal Centers for Social Services of the Valencia City Council and the Valencia-Ciutat Vella Health Department, allowing for optimal coordination and adequate follow-up of the cases attended.

The opening of the new headquarters strengthens SSVP’s commitment to the city and expands its network of services for individuals facing social exclusion. This center is projected to become a local benchmark in social intervention, focused on the real needs of the most vulnerable members of society.

SSVP representatives highlighted that loneliness, homelessness, misunderstanding, and stigma are ongoing issues that a large number of people with mental illnesses still face. The project aims to provide accessible yet impactful support and guidance, enabling them to lead fuller lives.

With this new social initiative, SSVP embarks on a phase of expansion and hopes to establish itself as a reference for supporting those in greatest need in the Valencia Community, where it already carries out significant work in places like Carcaixent, Crevillent, Moixent, Villarreal, and Benicàssim.

The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul is an international NGO with over 190 years of history. With an active presence in 155 countries and more than 30 million beneficiaries daily, this humanitarian and charitable association is recognized as a public utility institution in Spain, where it has a team of 3,000 members and volunteers.
