Optica2000’s tips to avoid eye allergies in the spring

With the arrival of spring, many people begin to suffer the consequences of ocular allergies, a condition that worsens with the increase of pollen in the environment. This situation causes uncomfortable symptoms such as itching, tearing, redness, and burning in the eyes, complicating the lives of those who suffer from this type of allergy. Experts warn about the importance of taking preventive measures to mitigate the impact that the arrival of this season has on visual health.

Marc Perea, head of the Visual Health Department at OPTICA2000, emphasizes the importance of detecting and addressing ocular allergies early. He recommends maintaining hand hygiene and avoiding rubbing the eyes, as these actions can increase irritation. He also highlights the need to keep the eyes well hydrated and to undergo regular check-ups with vision professionals.

The Spanish Society of Allergology and Clinical Immunology (SEAIC) has warned that several regions, such as Extremadura, Seville, and Jaen, are experiencing historical levels of pollen, reaching up to 20,000 grains per cubic meter of air. In addition, exposure to air pollution in urban areas can further aggravate the symptoms of these allergies.

In this scenario, Perea offers a series of recommendations to prevent and alleviate ocular allergy during the spring season. One of the first suggestions is to maintain strict personal hygiene, which includes washing hands before touching the eyes and frequently cleaning glasses. In addition, wearing sunglasses can provide additional protection against pollen. The application of artificial tears is another effective measure to keep the ocular surface hydrated and relieve irritation.

Other tips include ventilating homes during the central hours of the day and avoiding opening windows in the morning and at dusk, as well as using pollen filters in vehicles and air conditioning systems. Changing clothes upon returning from outdoors and limiting exposure on days with high pollen concentration are key actions to maintain ocular health in spring.

The specialists at OPTICA2000 are constantly training and conducting comprehensive visual exams to identify abnormalities and offer solutions tailored to the individual needs of each person. Their comprehensive approach ensures optimal visual health care at any time of the year.
