Perfect Picnic: Recipes and Tips from Viena Capellanes for Summer

With the arrival of nice weather, picnics have become one of the most cherished outdoor activities. In this context, Viena Capellanes, a historic chain from Madrid with over 150 years of experience, has launched a proposal that promises to simplify this experience with gourmet options and easy recipes.

From its 26 stores in Madrid, as well as through its website and the My Viena app, they offer a variety of baskets that include breakfasts, brunches, and snack packs. Their canapés, potato omelet, Iberian cured meats, salads, sandwiches, and artisanal pastries stand out, all prepared with the quality characteristic of the brand.

Lucía Álvarez, director of the Viena Capellanes Cooking and Pastry School, recommends a recipe for a mortadella sandwich with walnut pesto, ideal for preparation the day before. This sandwich blends walnuts, Parmesan cheese, garlic, basil, and olive oil into a pesto spread on sliced bread, complemented by Italian mortadella and shavings of Parmesan, cut into triangles.

On the other hand, Francisco Somoza, master pastry chef, suggests fruit skewers with chocolate and a peach and coconut smoothie. The skewers are made with oxidation-resistant fruits, accompanied by melted milk chocolate, cream, and sugar. The smoothie is made with frozen peaches, Greek yogurt, and coconut milk, ideally served cold in a thermos.

Viena Capellanes also highlights products that preserve well without refrigeration, such as cured meats, cheeses, salads, hummus, and nuts. They also recommend bringing portable coolers to keep the food fresh.

To ensure a successful picnic, they suggest planning for lighting if the gathering extends into the night, bringing ambient music, not forgetting essential items like a tablecloth, utensils, sunscreen, and always ensuring to include fresh water and refreshing drinks. By following these tips, enjoying a picnic will be a simple and pleasant experience.
