At the headquarters of the Pharmaceutical Distributor of Gipuzkoa (DFG), the IV Introduction to Hospital Pharmacy Day in Professional Training was held, an event organized by the Hospital Pharmacy Division of the Official College of Pharmacists of Gipuzkoa (COFG). This event brought together a total of 135 students from various educational centers, including Inmakulada Lanbide Ikastola of Tolosa, CPES Cesa of Urnieta, CIFP Don Bosco of Rentería, and CIFP Plaiaundi of Irun.
The main objective of the day was to offer future professionals a detailed vision of the functions performed in hospital pharmacy services. The students, who are studying middle and higher degrees in pharmacy technicians and parapharmacy, had the opportunity to learn essential aspects of this specialty. Topics discussed included medication management, medical products, and dietotherapy, as well as participation in clinical trials and patient care in outpatient clinics. Professionals from the Hospital Universitario Donostia, Matia Fundazioa, and Onkologikoa shared their experiences, highlighting the importance of pharmacovigilance, safety, and the preparation of sterile medications.
Asun Aranguren, the Hospital Pharmacy Division representative of COFG, emphasized the importance of this initiative: “In addition to showcasing our functions, we aim to raise awareness among students about the crucial role of hospital pharmacy in the healthcare system and encourage them to consider this option as a professional path.” The interaction between experts and students was crucial for expanding the education of the latter, helping them understand the demands and opportunities offered by this specialty.
At the end of the day, the students took a guided tour of the DFG facilities, allowing them to observe up close the operations, technology, and automation system of the main pharmaceutical distributor in Gipuzkoa. The organizers expressed their desire to not only educate, but also inspire these future pharmacists to pursue a career in this field, promoting continuous education and commitment to their professional development.
