On November 26, Alcorcón will be the stage for a day dedicated to preventive health, thanks to the collaboration between the Alcorcón City Council, OAFI, AECOSAR, and Comitas eHealth. These organizations, focused on joint health, will offer the community easy and free access to medical check-ups, carried out by the Mobile Health Unit of Comitas eHealth, which will use advanced technology.
The day will focus on the early detection of musculoskeletal pathologies, a problem that particularly affects the elderly population. Located in Plaza de los Abuelos, behind the Adolfo Suárez municipal senior center, the Mobile Unit will carry out various medical tests to promote well-being through prevention.
Aquilino Antuña, CEO of Comitas eHealth, highlights the importance of these initiatives by stating: “We break down barriers and bring health directly to the citizens. Our goal is for no one to have to wait until a problem arises to act. Prevention is our best ally.” Josep Verges, president of OAFI and AECOSAR, points out that “musculoskeletal pathology is very common and often goes unnoticed until a painful injury occurs, with irreparable damage in many cases.”
In Spain, more than 10 million people have musculoskeletal pathologies. Close to 80% of those who suffer fragility fractures are unaware of their osteoporosis condition, which mainly affects older women, representing 80% of diagnoses. Early diagnosis and treatment can significantly reduce the progression of the disease.
During the event, the Mobile Unit will use state-of-the-art tools to assess the health of bones, muscles, and joints. Bone ultrasound densitometry, FRAX questionnaires to measure fracture risk, detection of painful joint areas, and analysis of body composition using bioimpedance scales will be carried out.
In addition, experts in preventive health will provide recommendations to improve the quality of life of participants. The day is an opportunity for those who already experience symptoms or have a family history of these diseases, encouraging them to take advantage of the opportunity for an early check-up.
The initiative reflects the commitment of the Alcorcón City Council to promoting public health, consolidating its position as a model healthy municipality. A large participation of residents is expected, giving them the opportunity to learn more about their health and take measures to prevent future complications.
The campaign will take place on November 26, 2024, from 10 am to 2 pm, at Plaza de los Abuelos. With this action, Alcorcón reaffirms its pioneering role in community health initiatives, underscoring the importance of prevention and easy access to quality medical services.
