Promoting Employment Inclusion for People with Intellectual Disabilities in Spain: The Commitment of COPADE

Here’s the translation to American English:

The COPADE Foundation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy (MITES) and supported by the European Union through the NextGenerationEU program, has launched a new and ambitious project titled “Towards Labor Inclusion: Uniting Businesses, Community, and Disability.” The main goal of this program is to enhance the employability of individuals with intellectual disabilities and transform social perceptions toward this group.

The project, which will run until September 28, 2025, includes various strategic actions that emerged from a thorough diagnosis of the barriers and opportunities faced by people with disabilities in the labor market. Among the most notable initiatives are the development of two practical guides: one aimed at individuals with disabilities to strengthen competencies and provide career guidance, and another focused on employers, offering tools to create inclusive work environments.

Additionally, a sustainable and replicable business model will be designed, with the aim of generating direct employment in different regions. The project will also include an awareness campaign that will use accessible audiovisual materials and collaborate with partner organizations and influencers to raise awareness of the issue and promote an inclusive perspective within society.

The expected impact of this initiative is significant. On one hand, it aims to provide support and resources to individuals with intellectual disabilities, increasing their employment opportunities; on the other hand, it is expected that companies will adopt inclusive practices that not only offer social benefits but also economic advantages. Through participation in the project, individuals are expected to gain greater autonomy and confidence in their job skills, while companies will develop the ability to foster inclusive environments.

Although the project will conclude in 2025, it is anticipated that the tools and models developed can be replicated in the future, generating new job opportunities and promoting a more inclusive society.

The COPADE Foundation, founded in 1998, is dedicated to promoting Fair Trade and Responsible Consumption, collaborating with producer groups in Europe and Latin America, as well as with vulnerable communities in Spain. Through public-private partnerships, COPADE works to create networks that foster sustainable socioeconomic development while being environmentally respectful.
