Microsoft has released a new update for Windows 11 Insiders, specifically in the Release Preview Channel. Version 22631.5261 (KB5055629) is now available for users of the 23H2 version of the operating system. This update introduces a series of features and improvements that will be rolled out gradually.
One of the most prominent features of the gradual rollout is the “speech recap” feature in Narrator, which will allow users to keep track of what this tool has said, making it easier to access spoken content and live transcriptions. Additionally, the Phone Link app has been improved, now allowing users to make calls, send text messages, and share photos directly from the start menu.
Web developers will also have the opportunity to create interactive widgets from their existing content, which can be added to various widget surfaces. The File Explorer has received significant improvements, making it easier to view Microsoft 365 content and optimizing the process of extracting compressed files, especially when dealing with many small files.
Another notable improvement is found in the Windows share window, which now allows for quick edits on images, such as cropping and applying filters. Likewise, issues with the start menu related to the visibility of options with increased text and gesture navigation have been addressed.
As for the normal deployment, an issue with the USBxHCI driver on devices with newer Intel CPU architectures has been resolved, affecting the operation of USB cameras with Windows Hello. Slow opening of Excel files located in SMB shared resources has also been addressed, as well as various issues impacting Xbox controllers.
This update reaffirms Microsoft’s commitment to improving user experience and efficiently addressing issues that arise with its operating system.
