The First Conference on Health and Robotic Neurorehabilitation, held at Quirónsalud Bizkaia Hospital and organized in collaboration with Gogoa Mobility Robots, highlighted the revolutionary impact of robotic technology on the recovery of patients with various neurological conditions. This event not only celebrated the first anniversary of the hospital’s Robotic Neurorehabilitation Unit but also marked the tenth anniversary of Gogoa, bringing together specialists and sector enthusiasts.
Sara García, head of the unit, emphasized the importance of technological advancements in the rehabilitation process. She stated that the results achieved are significantly more effective, especially for patients who have suffered strokes, traumatic myelopathies, or neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s and multiple sclerosis. Dr. Alejandro Durán, head of the Neurology Department, insisted that “it’s never too late to begin rehabilitation” and stressed the significance of early intervention in acute cases.
During the conference, various treatment methodologies were discussed. García highlighted that “it is essential to agree on goals with patients,” pointing out that the personalization of treatment is a crucial element, as each individual presents distinct needs and capabilities. Alberto Yanes, a patient diagnosed with cervical myelopathy, shared his experience and the notable improvement in his balance and mobility after joining the unit following six months of conventional rehabilitation.
Carlos Fernández, CEO of Gogoa Mobility Robots, explained that the technology behind their exoskeletons is based on analyzing the gait patterns of various individuals, allowing for real-time customization. Guillermo Asín, the company’s Director of R&D, added that constant collaboration with physiotherapists is vital to adjust devices to the specific needs of each user.
The event demonstrated that integrating technology into rehabilitation not only improves clinical outcomes but also reinforces patients’ confidence in their recovery process. Thanks to the synergy between the hospital and Gogoa, a growing number of people are regaining their mobility and improving their quality of life through robotic therapies tailored to their particular conditions.
