Samsung Electronics has launched a new feature aimed at Audi drivers: a digital key through Samsung Wallet. This partnership will allow Galaxy device users to lock, unlock, and start their Audi vehicles using only their Galaxy smartphone, eliminating the need for a physical key.
In the words of Woncheol Chai, Executive Vice President and Head of the Digital Wallet team at Samsung Electronics, “We are excited to offer Audi drivers the incredible convenience of Samsung’s Digital Key, which benefits from advanced UWB technology and is easily accessible through Samsung Wallet. This collaboration with Audi is driving our vision of offering technology-enabled seamless experiences in the Galaxy ecosystem.”
With Samsung’s Digital Key, users will be able to lock and unlock their vehicles and open the trunk through a Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) system. Inside the vehicle, drivers can start it without needing to use a physical key or take their phone out of their pocket. Additionally, the Digital Key can be securely shared wirelessly with friends, allowing the owner to grant or revoke access as needed.
Digital keys are protected within the device following strict EAL6+ security standards, preventing unauthorized access. By using ultra-wideband (UWB) technologies, these digital keys ensure precise functionality and significantly minimize the risk of vehicle intrusions.
Furthermore, if a device containing a Digital Key is lost or stolen, users have the option to remotely lock or delete their key through the Samsung Find service, providing an additional layer of security. With authentication requirements including biometrics or a PIN, Samsung Wallet protects the vehicle, ensuring privacy and security with each use.
Samsung Wallet is a versatile platform that allows Galaxy users to manage digital keys, payment methods, identification cards, and more, within a single secure app. Since its launch in June 2022, Samsung Wallet has provided a seamless interface backed by Samsung Knox’s defense-grade security. It integrates with the Galaxy ecosystem to offer users robust connectivity and enhanced security in their daily routine.
The introduction of Digital Key functionality for specific Audi models will begin this month in Europe, followed by a global rollout in line with Audi’s vehicle launch schedule. Compatible models include the Audi A6 e-tron, Q6 e-tron, and A5 series, with more vehicles expected to be integrated in the future.
This collaboration represents a significant advancement in Audi and Samsung’s mission to offer premium mobility solutions that meet the current demands for safety and convenience in the market. Audi, renowned for its success in manufacturing premium and luxury vehicles, continues to bolster its global presence with innovations like these.
