Schaeffler and Alstom Seal Strategic Agreement to Boost Railway Transport.

In a significant step towards advancing the railway industry, Schaeffler and Alstom have formalized a new strategic partnership at the InnoTrans 2024 trade fair. Schaeffler, a recognized leader in bearing technology, is joining the Alstom AllianceTM program, further solidifying the relationship between these two leading companies in their respective fields.

The collaboration will not only ensure the continuous supply of bearings and essential components for Alstom’s railway vehicles but is also designed to foster innovation and the development of technologies that promote long-term sustainable growth. This union is not starting from scratch; Schaeffler has been an essential supplier to Alstom for years, providing everything from bearings for gearboxes and drives to slewing rings for metro trains and trams.

Sascha Zaps, CEO of Bearings & Industrial Solutions at Schaeffler AG, emphasized the significance of this alliance, highlighting that it will facilitate a deep exchange of experiences and knowledge. This will benefit the development and design of bearings, thus improving the reliability and safety of railway transportation. Guirec Turquet de Beauregard, Alstom’s Director of Electrical and Propulsion Purchasing, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, emphasizing both companies’ shared commitment to sustainable success.

The Alstom AllianceTM program, which began in 2015, aims to establish lasting partnerships with strategic suppliers. It seeks to provide customers with high-quality products and services, following an innovative and sustainable approach that spans from design to final delivery.

Remanufacturing is a key focus of this collaboration: Schaeffler is expanding its capabilities to offer bearing refurbishment services at a regional level. This aligns with Alstom’s ambitious sustainability goals and reflects the adoption of circular economy systems that enable more efficient resource use, ensuring the same quality and safety as new products.

Both companies share a strong commitment to sustainability and engage in initiatives aimed at improving environmental management efficiency. Schaeffler, with a Platinum level awarded by EvoVadis sustainability assessment, demonstrates its ongoing dedication to environmental and social responsibility, reaffirming alongside Alstom its leadership in the green and efficient railway sector.
