Schneider Electric Introduces Modicon Edge I/O NTS: The Innovative I/O Solution for the Industrial Future

Schneider Electric has introduced its new input/output (I/O) system called Modicon™ Edge I/O NTS, which promises to revolutionize data aggregation in the industrial sector. This product is characterized by its IP20 design and is intended to cover a wide range of applications, from the simplest to the most complex, in sectors such as machinery, packaging, food and beverage, life sciences, mining, and chemicals.

The flexibility of the Modicon Edge I/O NTS makes it an essential tool for machinery manufacturers, system integrators, and industrial users. The system is designed not only to meet current needs but also to anticipate future technological challenges. By using open Ethernet protocols, it facilitates connectivity with various devices and architectures, incorporating data intelligence that optimizes performance and availability while strengthening cybersecurity.

A key feature is its internal communication based on OPC UA technology, which promotes interoperability of different Ethernet protocols, opening the doors to a era of connected products within the framework of Industry 4.0 and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). “Edge I/O NTS not only provides a robust catalog of I/O for customers to develop their solutions, but also prepares them for the future,” said Ali Haj Fraj, Senior Vice President of Digital Factory at Schneider Electric. This translates into users having enhanced tools to manage their data more efficiently and transparently.

The launch of the Modicon Edge I/O NTS comes at a time when the distributed I/O market is expanding, driven by digital transformation that has increased the need for data analytics in manufacturing. The growing adoption of solutions based on artificial intelligence, virtualization, and simulation also underscores the need for sustainable and secure I/O systems. In this sense, the new system aligns perfectly with emerging market trends.

In addition, the manufacturing plant for the Edge I/O NTS has been recognized by the World Economic Forum as a Industry 4.0 Lighthouse, standing out for its comprehensive automation that not only improves the quality and traceability of products, but also minimizes environmental impact.

With the introduction of the Modicon Edge I/O NTS, it is expected that system integrators, machinery manufacturers, and end users in the industrial sector will experience significant benefits, including reduced installation and operation times, lower operating costs, greater flexibility in system design, and proper preparation for a data-driven future.
