Summer is approaching, bringing with it the anticipation of planning vacations. A recent survey by Skyscanner has revealed that 46% of Spaniards intend to travel abroad this season. This year, travelers are showing a clear preference for authentic experiences and less crowded destinations, longing for a deeper connection with the places they visit.
The study reveals that 83% of respondents prefer to explore lesser-known destinations, while six out of ten choose to avoid traditional tourist routes in favor of quieter options. Additionally, 40% of travelers aim to dodge the busiest vacation weeks, not only to access more affordable prices but also to enjoy greater tranquility and exclusivity in their experiences.
The growing influence of platforms like TikTok is leading travelers to discover hidden corners and less-trafficked cities, marking a trend toward more conscious and authenticity-focused tourism. Among young people, this trend is particularly notable: 56% of respondents under 24 have already made vacation reservations, compared to just 35% among those aged 35 to 44. In contrast, only 13% of individuals over 65 have started planning their summer.
For those who have not yet chosen their destination, it’s interesting to note that Monday is considered the most economical day to travel, and the week from July 28 to August 3 is the most affordable in terms of prices. This year, Spaniards seem to lean toward a way of traveling that prioritizes the quality of experiences over the quantity of destinations, reflecting a clear search for authenticity in their summer adventures.
