Som Energia promotes collective urban generation projects in Baix Llobregat and Vallès Oriental.

The GURB project, an initiative of the cooperative Som Energia, aims to expand its Shared Urban Generation model to four new locations in Catalonia between 2025 and 2026: Olesa de Montserrat, Molins de Rei, Parets del Vallès-Montmeló, and Cardedeu. This innovative project seeks to provide solutions for electric self-consumption to those individuals and entities who, for various reasons such as living in rental properties, not having suitable rooftops, or lacking resources to invest in solar panels, cannot access solar energy.

The first GURB was successfully established in Mataró, where a 100 kW installation in the Escorxador neighborhood has allowed over 120 homes to enjoy a power output between 0.5 and 1 kW. Encouraged by the positive experience in this locality, Som Energia has decided to move forward with the creation of new installations in the mentioned locations, benefiting thousands of people in the region.

In Olesa de Montserrat, a 450 kW installation is projected, which would be able to serve around 500 homes or businesses. Meanwhile, four 100 kW installations will be developed in Parets del Vallès and Montmeló, catering to another 500 self-consumers. Cardedeu will have two 100 kW installations able to supply approximately 250 homes and businesses, while in Molins de Rei, a 70 kW installation is planned for around 100 entities.

The main goal of GURB is to facilitate the generation of local solar energy. Som Energia will be responsible for the management, maintenance, and expansion of these installations throughout their lifespan, allowing participants to benefit from a discount on their electricity bill based on the amount of energy generated. This initiative not only aims to minimize environmental impact but also to maximize the economic savings for those involved.

Som Energia, a non-profit cooperative, specializes in the generation and commercialization of renewable electricity, currently operating 17 plants. With this project, the cooperative aims to promote distributed generation close to consumption, ensuring that those who cannot self-supply have access to green energy. Additionally, they are working on other projects to develop solar plants on land in Ametlla del Vallès, which will expand their production capacity and the offering of shared self-consumption.
