Specialized Labor Shortage Endangers Rehabilitation and Construction in Spain, Warns Asefave

The Spanish Association of Manufacturers of Light Facades and Windows (ASEFAVE) has issued an alert regarding the concerning shortage of labor in the construction and rehabilitation sector in Spain. This lack of both skilled and unskilled workers is seriously affecting the quality and competitiveness of the companies involved.

ASEFAVE has noticed an increasing deficit of trained professionals in recent years. This situation not only delays ongoing projects but also compromises the quality and safety of constructions, affecting customer trust and the sector’s reputation. Additionally, there’s a significant increase in costs due to this personnel shortage.

To face this crisis, the association is calling for a considerable increase in the investment allocated to vocational training in the field of construction and rehabilitation. ASEFAVE proposes the expansion of available spots in these training programs, aiming to prepare future generations of workers who can meet the existing demand and maintain necessary quality standards. This investment is deemed crucial for improving working conditions and wages, factors affecting the sector’s attractiveness.

Due to the shortage of skilled labor, many companies are forced to hire young and unskilled workers from outside Spain. However, this temporary solution is not sustainable in the long term and could damage the sector’s international competitiveness. Therefore, ASEFAVE insists on the need to invest in the local workforce to ensure sustained and quality growth.

The association also questions whether authorities are fully aware of the magnitude of this problem and describes the support from institutions as insufficient. Therefore, it urgently calls on authorities to increase the necessary financial and structural support to resolve this crisis. ASEFAVE reaffirms its commitment to finding effective and sustainable solutions for the sector, while urging government officials to recognize the seriousness of the situation and take immediate action to ensure that Spain continues to be a benchmark in quality and professionalism in the field of construction and rehabilitation.
