Sure! The translation would be: “Atienza: ADEL and Virtual Reality in the Fight Against Gender Violence.”

Atienza is preparing to host an innovative activity focused on raising awareness about digital gender-based violence, aimed at adolescents aged 12 to 16 years old. This initiative, part of the ‘Put Yourself in Their Shoes’ program, is promoted by ADEL Sierra Norte in collaboration with nine Rural Development Groups from Castilla-La Mancha.

The activity, scheduled for July 25 at 11:30 AM at the Posada del Cordón, will offer an immersive experience through virtual reality. The young participants will have the opportunity to step into the shoes of those who suffer various forms of violence in digital environments, covering situations such as cyberbullying, sextortion, grooming, and hate speech. Additionally, the risks associated with the improper use of social media will be addressed.

María Jesús Merino, president of ADEL Sierra Norte, emphasizes the importance of implementing these initiatives in rural areas. According to Merino, “education and prevention are key to eradicating gender-based violence from the root.” She highlights the need to ensure that towns become safe and equal spaces for new generations.

The ‘Put Yourself in Their Shoes’ project has already reached over 500 adolescents across the region and is currently in its central phase, with the goal of involving 800 young people in approximately 30 municipalities. This activity is funded by LEADER funds as part of the extraordinary reprogramming of the 2014-2022 Rural Development Program, co-financed by the European Union, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food, and the Junta de Comunidades de Castilla-La Mancha.

FADEMUR Castilla-La Mancha will be the organization responsible for conducting these workshops, which combine technology, pedagogy, and a gender perspective, to promote the values of equality, respect, and coexistence among rural youth.

To participate in the activity, a signed authorization from parents or guardians will be required. ADEL Sierra Norte has also set up helplines to provide more information. Through these actions, the organization reaffirms its commitment to building a rural environment that is more just, equitable, and free of violence.
