Halloween is one of the holidays that is gaining more importance in the country. It is no longer limited to homes, but it is also commonly celebrated in schools and institutes during the week leading up to Halloween, where children dress up and engage in crafts. But, what Halloween decorations could you have in your living room?
Below, we will give you some ideas to consider to transform that space into one of the most terrifying. Shall we begin?
Sinister lighting
There is no doubt that lighting is key in Halloween decoration. So, opt for candles, lanterns, or flickering lights.
This will create an eerie and mysterious atmosphere.
Furthermore, you don’t have to use real candles, you can use LED lights for safety. And since these lights come in different colors, the best ones to use are orange, green, and purple.
Spider webs and spiders for Halloween decoration
No Halloween decoration is complete without spider webs and spiders. They are a “must-have” in this celebration and thus must be present in your living room, even if they scare you.
The best thing to do is to place them in the corners, but you could also put them on some surfaces. In the market, you can find cotton and plastic spider webs, and the same goes for spiders. Additionally, they come in various sizes, so you can create a group of them to make it scarier.
Decorative pumpkins
One of the most common Halloween crafts, especially in the United States, is carving pumpkins. This trend is increasingly spreading (especially because the inside of the pumpkin can be used to prepare multiple dishes and desserts).
So, you would buy a pumpkin, hollow it out, and carve it into a scary shape. Then, place a candle inside to illuminate it at night, and you’re ready to go.
However, if you’re not good at carving or don’t have time, you can always buy pre-made plastic or ceramic pumpkins. Although we warn you that it won’t be the same.
Flying bats
Another element to consider in Halloween decoration is bats. You can find pre-made bats in the market made of plush or plastic, but if you don’t want to spend too much, you should know that they are easy to make.
All you need is black cardboard or paper, scissors, string, and glue. Download a template from the internet to create the shape you like the most, and distribute them around the living room: on the walls, ceilings, windows…
Skeletons and zombies
Two iconic and classic Halloween characters are undoubtedly zombies and skeletons. And, of course, they should be present in Halloween decoration.
You could place skeletons on the sofa, hang them on the wall or ceiling in scary poses, use zombies or parts of them on the living room table…
If you also include sound effects, it will surely enhance the atmosphere (instead of regular music).
Thematic curtains and fabrics
Believe it or not, changing the curtains and fabrics you usually use in the living room can give it a completely different look.
Use darker curtains, or ones with patterns of black cats, bats, ghosts… Another option is to hang spider web-like or torn fabrics to simulate that something dark has occurred there.
Spooky centerpieces
In the living room, especially if you’re hosting a party with children, it is common to display food for them to snack on. That’s why the table also needs a good Halloween decoration.
Opt for a black tablecloth, but also a white one (lace-like) to give it a more elegant feel (with the right lighting, it will look different). On top, place black vases, carved pumpkins, flowers and dried branches, skeletons… Anything that can give you a scare, including spider webs.
And match the food with that decoration. By the way, that food can also be scary, as there are Halloween recipes that will be a hit.
Horror movie night
Of course, Halloween night requires a horror movie to enhance the Halloween decoration. And in this case, what could be better than having a TV to watch it? Although, if you ask us, we would recommend using a projector to make it feel like you’re in a cinema.
In fact, you can use the projector during the party, projecting classic horror scenes on the ceiling and walls, monsters, ghosts… If they are in 3D, it will surely surprise and scare someone.
As you can see, there are many things you can do for Halloween decoration, and many others that we haven’t mentioned, such as using bottles and jars with strange potions, or creating a decoration inspired by an iconic horror movie (Dracula’s castle, “The Shining”…). Are you up for something like that this Halloween? You still have time if you start now.
