The COACM Supports the 1st Futuristic Heritage Congress in Pastrana

The College of Architects of Castilla-La Mancha is Deeply Involved in Cultural Heritage Preservation

In a significant demonstration of the critical role architecture plays in the preservation and valorization of cultural heritage, the College of Architects of Castilla-La Mancha (COACM) has actively participated in events and discussions focused on heritage conservation. Patricia García Caballero, President of the Guadalajara branch of COACM, along with Elena Guijarro, Dean of COACM, and Alba Escudier, the Culture Officer from the same branch, had notable presences in the recent “Heritage: The Present of the Future” Congress organized by the URJC in Vila Ducal. The congress was held at the stunning Palace of the Dukes of Pastrana, accentuating the union of historical conservation with modern educational and touristic purposes.

Addressing the congress attendees, García Caballero emphasized the essential bond between architects and cultural heritage, advocating for a more significant presence of architects in institutions to elevate the recognition of their work in society. Similarly, Dean Elena Guijarro reinforced the importance of defending heritage, not only as a task for architects but as a collective societal mission. Guijarro expressed gratitude towards the event’s organizers, highlighting the hope for continued collaboration and the anticipation of future editions of the congress.

The COACM’s dedication to cultural heritage is not limited to participation in congresses but is also evident in the organization and support of initiatives aimed at exploring and resolving the challenges facing heritage conservation. The announcement of the upcoming second edition of the Heritage Days in Cuenca for March 2025, following the insights gathered from the first edition held in Toledo, showcases the COACM’s proactive approach in establishing platforms for dialogue, education, and the promotion of heritage values.

The congress in Pastrana also served as an avenue for the establishment of new relationships and the strengthening of the ambitious program COACM intends to carry out, focusing on the pivotal role that architecture holds in the conservation, restoration, and adaptive reuse of historical buildings and heritages. Through these activities and future gatherings, the COACM remains committed to balancing the preservation of the past with the necessities of the present and future, ensuring the sustained appreciation and protection of Spain’s rich cultural legacies for generations to come.
