The cork industry in Catalonia recognizes four outstanding individuals at the XXXII Gala d’Or Awards.

The Catalan Cork Entrepreneurs Association (AECORK) has celebrated a new edition of the Gla d’Or Awards, recognizing four prominent figures for their commitment to sustainability and the promotion of cork worldwide. In this thirty-second edition, the most prestigious awards in the Catalan cork sector have been granted to the Biodiversity Foundation, Wine in Moderation, Isabel García, and Miquel Mascort.

During the ceremony, Joan J. Puig, president of AECORK, highlighted the importance of recognizing those individuals and institutions that have contributed significantly to the development and sustainability of the cork sector. According to his words, “over the years, individuals or institutions from the gastronomy, viticulture, and highly relevant international environmental organizations have been awarded.” Puig also thanked the awardees for being ambassadors of cork attributes such as sustainability and innovation.

The event took place at the elegant Mas de Torrent Hotel, in Baix Empordà, and brought together influential personalities from the cork, forestry, and business sectors. During the event, the importance of cork was underscored not only as a natural and quality product but also for its significant sustainable and socioeconomic implications.

Among the honorees, the Biodiversity Foundation was praised for its work in biodiversity recovery and support for sustainable projects, including those related to cork. Wine in Moderation, on the other hand, received recognition for promoting moderate and responsible wine consumption, in line with the values of the cork sector. Isabel García dazzled with her innovation by creating a brioche bread with a cork stopper shape, presented at the Spanish Bakery Championship, symbolizing the connection between wine and cork. Finally, Miquel Mascort was honored for a distinguished 50-year career in the Catalan cork sector, being a fundamental pillar within the association.

Since 1990, AECORK, which brings together cork manufacturers and traders operating in the world’s major wine markets, has been awarding the Gla d’Or Awards. This award, represented by an acorn-shaped badge, pays tribute to those who support the cork industry, wine, and Spanish gastronomic heritage. Previous awardees include illustrious names such as Álvaro Palacios, the Roca brothers, and the Barcelona Wine Week.
