The Government Allocates 44 Million to Boost Data Economy in Companies

The Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Administration has announced today a new call for grants aimed at the development of technological products and services focused on data spaces. With a total investment of 44 million euros, this measure is part of the Sectoral Data Spaces Boost Plan, which was recently presented by the State Secretary for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence.

This initiative is part of component 12 of the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan, and aims to contribute to the creation of a Single Data Market in Europe. It is expected that the data economy will become an essential pillar for innovation and growth in the European Union, with projections estimating a market value of 851,000 million euros by 2030.

The formation of Sectoral Data Spaces is considered a significant advancement in the country’s digital economy, especially considering the growing interest of different productive sectors in these platforms. It is anticipated that this trend will not only boost the digital industry but also promote technological transformation in crucial sectors such as social and care economy, agri-food, sustainable mobility and transportation, health, and media, among others.

With this call, the aim is to support the technological industry through grants for the creation of specific products and services for these data spaces. Eligible initiatives may range from data space “Building Blocks” to data products and services, tools for data processing and discovery, data space platforms, and applications for regulatory compliance.

The application process is open to both public and private companies, as well as to business associations and entities that promote knowledge dissemination. However, the tourism sector is excluded from this call, as it has a specific set of grants. Projects seeking funding can apply with a budget ranging from a minimum of 300,000 euros to a maximum of 1 million euros, and the selection of beneficiaries will be done through a competitive bidding process. Additionally, all projects must be completed by June 30, 2026.

Applications for these grants can be submitted starting from December 20, 2024, through a form that will be made available on the Electronic Headquarters of the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Administration. The deadline for submissions will extend until January 31, 2025.
