The Prado Museum and Telefónica wrap up ‘The Art That Connects’ with over 100,600 visitors.

Last April, “The art that connects” initiative, which brings together the National Prado Museum and Telefónica, began in celebration of the latter’s centenary. The project aimed to strengthen the connection between people through culture, and over its nine-month duration, it has allowed 18 museums in various Spanish localities to temporarily exhibit masterpieces of painting. This initiative has contributed to the creation of a shared cultural heritage among citizens.

Throughout the exhibition, works by great masters such as Velázquez, Goya, Ribera, and Murillo have traveled to different regions of the country, attracting the attention of a total of 100,622 visitors. The cultural exchange generated has resulted in a significant increase in cultural activity at the local level, particularly highlighting institutions in cities such as Granada, Mérida, and Cartagena, which have experienced the highest influx of public thanks to these temporary exhibitions.

“The art that connects” is part of a broader effort by the Prado Museum to commemorate its Bicentennial. This project complements “De Gira por España,” launched in 2019, which has allowed the institution to have a direct presence in almost forty cities, accompanied by loans and itinerant temporary exhibitions. Additionally, “El Prado en las calles” has been implemented, a program that takes photographic replicas of the Museum’s collections to public spaces in different cities, currently in Andalusia, after having visited other regions such as Castilla y León, Castilla la Mancha, and Extremadura.

The collaboration between the Prado Museum and Telefónica has not only enriched the cultural experience of citizens but also strengthened the bond between artistic heritage and the community, demonstrating the power of art to connect people.
