The Prado Museum joins the campaign Shelter in Culture.

The Prado Museum is participating in the campaign Take Refuge in Culture, an initiative promoted by the Department of Culture, Tourism, and Sports of the Madrid City Council as an alternative for residents and tourists to protect themselves from the high temperatures by visiting cultural spaces during the hottest hours, where they can enjoy incentives such as special activities or discounts.

As a complement to the visit, the Prado Museum has scheduled nine flamenco performances, about 15 minutes long, on Wednesdays in July and August at 3:00 pm in the Sala de las Musas. This Wednesday, the protagonist will be Amador Rojas, born in Los Palacios, Seville, into a gypsy family, who began his training as a dancer at the age of seven under the tutelage of Maestro Farruco. In 2011, Amador Rojas took on the role of artistic director of SOLANA Entertainment, a production company with which he has been touring the world.

Among his own projects are “Kahlo Caló,” based on the life of Frida Kahlo, and “Mandala,” a show that celebrates cultural diversity. He has received awards such as the “Revelation Artist” at the Flamenco Biennial of Seville 2008 and “La Venencia Flamenca” in 2009. His talent led him to collaborate with theater director Miguel Narros in “Fedra.” In 2010, he presented “Mandala” in Los Angeles, winning the The Golden Lyre Musicianship Award. In addition to his international tours, he has participated in shows like “Eterno Camarón” and has been co-director and performer of “Las Minas Puerto Flamenco.”

The Take Refuge in Culture campaign aims not only to provide a refuge from the heat but also to encourage interest in culture and art in the city. With this initiative, the Madrid City Council hopes to promote access to cultural spaces during the summer months, offering residents and tourists the opportunity to enjoy the cultural richness that the capital offers in a climate-controlled and pleasant environment.
