The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has taken a significant step in improving the urban environment and quality of life in Lozoyuela, a small municipality in the Community of Madrid, by awarding a contract worth 3.56 million euros for the implementation of noise reduction works on the A-1 highway. This project, which will be financed with part of the NextGenerationEU European funds, is part of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan and will cover the section between kilometers 66.4 and 68.5 of the mentioned road.
The central focus of this initiative is the replacement of the current noise barriers with new structures that will help decrease noise pollution affecting residents in the area. This not only aims to increase the comfort of the inhabitants but also seeks to beautify the environment and improve the integration of the road into the urban landscape.
The implementation of these works also promises environmental benefits, as it will increase the well-being of local wildlife species by reducing noise levels. At an urban level, it is expected that these improvements will help increase the value of properties in the area. The works include the removal of current barriers and their foundations, the installation of an independent containment system, the construction of a concrete wall to support the new barriers, and the application of anti-graffiti treatments. Additionally, visible signage will be placed on the acrylic structures to prevent bird collisions, and the replacement of vertical signaling elements affected during the construction process will be carried out.
This set of interventions highlights the government’s commitment to creating a more sustainable and livable environment, as well as emphasizing the importance of European investments in projects that promote environmental resilience and social cohesion in areas affected by the constant traffic of road infrastructures.
