The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has taken a significant step towards improving the acoustic environment in the town of San Rafael, province of Segovia, by awarding the execution of works for a total value of 571,335 euros, including fees. The main objective of this project is to mitigate the impact of traffic noise on the N-6 road, a problem that has affected the quality of life of the residents in the area for years.
As part of this initiative, sound-absorbing pavement will be implemented along a stretch of approximately 2.5 kilometers, covering from kilometer points 60.750 to 63.240. This effort is an integral part of Phase II of the Noise Action Plan, which aims to address noise pollution issues on the country’s busiest roads.
The improvement process will involve milling the upper layers of the existing pavement, and subsequently replacing them with silent asphalt layers. This type of pavement has been specially designed to significantly reduce the noise generated by passing vehicles, aiming to improve the tranquility conditions for the residents of San Rafael.
The funding for this work comes from the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan (PRTR), within a special program that prioritizes sustainability, energy efficiency, and noise reduction in the State Road Network. This action aligns with the Energy Efficiency Strategy, officially published on March 27, 2024 in the Official State Gazette (BOE), which sets guidelines to decrease electricity consumption and reduce polluting emissions from Spanish roads, with a time horizon extending to the year 2030.
This set of initiatives not only aims to provide a healthier and more peaceful environment for the residents of San Rafael, but also reinforces the Government’s commitment to sustainability and environmental preservation, in line with European goals for ecological transition.
