The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has formalized the works to adapt 1.5 kilometers of the Balanegra crossing in Almería to pedestrian and cyclist traffic for around 4.4 million euros (VAT included). Specifically, the works will take place between km 398.350 and 399.800 of the N-340A road, as it passes through the town of Almería.
The works will bring about a radical change in the environment of the crossing to promote sustainable, healthy, active, and safe mobility, prioritizing the recreation of the residents. The functionality of vehicular traffic will be maintained, although as a secondary priority compared to pedestrian, cyclist, and leisure use.
The formalization of the contract is one of the final administrative steps before the start of the works. Once the contract is formalized, there is a regulatory deadline for the lifting of the surveying act and the start of the works. The corresponding announcement will be published soon in the Official State Gazette (BOE).
This action will be financed through NextGenerationEU funds from the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan, within the program for the humanization of crossings, which plans to invest 105 million euros (VAT excluded) to promote more sustainable, inclusive, and accessible urban environments.
