The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility plans to start the urban integration works of the N-125 road, known as the airport road, on Monday, July 29, along 1.13 km from kilometers 8.870 to 10, passing through the city of Zaragoza. This intervention has an investment of 3 million euros (VAT included).
The works aim to integrate the mentioned section into the urban network, turning an infrastructure designed for private vehicles into an avenue where different modes of transportation coexist. To achieve this, the following actions are included:
– Widening of existing sidewalks and construction of new sidewalks, allowing the entire section to be walked, as well as the creation of a green area with urban furniture and root irrigation.
– Construction of a bidirectional bike lane separated from traffic and sidewalks, expanding the city’s cycling network and improving connections with existing ones.
– Implementation of traffic calming measures: reducing the speed from 50 km/h to 30 km/h; signal light redesign (including Bluetooth sound activation systems and Passblue system); conversion of left turn intersections into roundabouts; narrowing of the roadway and installation of a pedagogical radar sign, aiming to regulate the coexistence between different modes of transportation.
– Installation of LED lamps to make the lighting network more efficient.
– Renovation of the drainage system and road signage.
Once the works are finished, the section will be handed over to the Zaragoza City Council in accordance with current regulations that establish the framework for agreements to hand over urban roads from the state network to municipalities.
This intervention is included in the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan funded by the European Union through the NextGenerationEU funds.
