The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has launched a major initiative for the modernization of railway infrastructure in Catalonia, with a record investment of 607 million euros planned for the year 2024. This economic injection represents a significant advancement in the implementation of the Rodalies Plan 2020-2030, whose goal is to improve both the capacity and reliability of the commuter train service in the region.
During his intervention in Congress, Minister Óscar Puente highlighted that, since the start of the plan, investments exceeding 2,000 million euros have been executed. Out of this amount, 1,414 million have been allocated to the modernization and reinforcement of the railway infrastructure by Adif. The minister emphasized the importance of the Rodalies Plan, which has been active for five years, and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining a steady pace of investment in the coming years, focusing their efforts on improving public transportation.
It is important to note that nearly half of the actions carried out by the Ministry in Catalonia last year have been focused on the Rodalies area, highlighting the priority the government places on this service. Some of the investments come from European funds, specifically under the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, which incorporates resources from the NextGenerationEU program.
With these measures, the Ministry not only aims to improve the quality of the railway service, but also to promote a more sustainable and accessible mobility for all citizens of Catalonia.
