The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has announced its intention to carry out a significant renovation of the lighting system in a 10-kilometer stretch of the A-30 highway, near Murcia. The planned works have a cost of 3.2 million euros, including VAT, and will soon be put out to tender after their publication in the Official State Gazette.
The stretch in question extends from kilometer 134 to 144.3 of the A-30. The improvements will affect both the main lanes in both directions and the entrance ramps. The project includes the replacement of the current sodium vapor lamps on the highway trunk with LED photovoltaic luminaires, which will be managed through a point-to-point control system. In the areas of the ramps and junctions, LED luminaires will be installed. In addition, low-voltage electrical panels will be adapted and both the panels and the electrical feeding circuits of the lighting will be renewed, along with the channeling for the distribution of these circuits.
The main objective of this intervention is to achieve significant energy savings, reducing electricity consumption through the use of the new luminaries. Furthermore, it aims to improve the lighting conditions on the highway, increasing light levels and optimizing uniformity and chromatic quality. These changes are designed to enhance the safety of those traveling on this road.
This initiative is part of a broader effort by the Directorate General of Roads (DGC) in its project to improve energy efficiency. The intention is to reduce energy consumption of outdoor lighting installations by 50% between 2022 and 2028, following the Energy Efficiency Strategy of the State Road Network.
The funding for this project comes from the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan, specifically from the section dedicated to sustainability, energy efficiency, and action against noise. This investment highlights the Spanish Government’s commitment to sustainable mobility and environmental protection.
