Turn Your Balcony into a Summer Retreat: 3 Simple Steps to Renovate It

María García, a resident of a modest apartment in the city center, used to look disdainfully at her small balcony. “It was a sad, lifeless space. It had a few broken pots and a couple of old chairs,” she comments. However, this summer, María decided to transform that dark and forgotten corner into a cheerful and cozy relaxation space.

The first step in her transformation was to clean and organize. María removed the old pots and rusty chairs, swept thoroughly, and cleaned the railings. “It was surprising how a little cleaning made the place look more spacious and bright,” she says.

Then, she added a touch of color. She asked for advice from a decorator friend and chose to paint the railings a soft green. “I chose colors that made me feel good, so I also bought some pots in bright tones like yellow and red,” she explains. María planted begonias, geraniums, and lavender, flowers known for their resilience and their ability to brighten any space.

The final step was the finishing touch: decoration. She went to a second-hand store and found a set of rustic furniture – a table and two chairs. “They were perfect for the small space. In addition, I added some colorful cushions and a couple of solar lanterns,” she says with a wide smile. To complete the ambiance, she placed a small bookshelf with books and a retro radio she had inherited from her grandmother.

Now, María’s balcony is her favorite spot in her home. “I wish I had done this sooner,” she says while enjoying a cup of tea at sunset. This change not only improved the look of the balcony, but also positively influenced her emotional well-being.

María is a clear example that, with a bit of effort and creativity, any corner can become an oasis of peace and happiness. “You don’t need a lot of money, just the desire to improve and a bit of imagination,” she concludes with satisfaction.
