With an international focus aimed at optimizing leadership in scientific infrastructures, the second pilot course “Coaching Development Program for managers and directors of European Research Infrastructures and Core Facilities” at the Complutense University of Madrid has concluded with resounding success. This program, developed in collaboration with Proportione, a company specialized in strategy and executive development programs, has had a significant impact on leadership and management within the European context.
The course, part of the European project RItrainPlus, was delivered in English, attracting the participation of professionals from various countries such as Portugal, Italy, France, Israel, Germany, Norway, Belgium, the UK, Serbia, and Uganda, reinforcing its global nature. Recognized as a microcredential by the Continuing Education Center of UCM, the training provides crucial added value to managers and heads of scientific infrastructures and facilities.
With a practical focus, the program equipped participants with vital tools for their daily work. Simulations and dynamic exercises were conducted to enhance essential skills such as decision-making under pressure, managing interdisciplinary teams, motivational leadership, and strategic communication. The applied methods, inspired by neuroscience and models such as GROW, facilitated an improvement in decision clarity, conflict resolution, and collaboration, effectively guiding teams towards innovation.
Participants’ testimonials highlight the personal and professional transformation they experienced, the value of the network created, and the applicability of their learnings in their work environments. The quality of the training and its practical approach allowed attendees to put acquired knowledge into practice in real-life situations.
The inclusive and multidisciplinary component, enhanced by the use of English, created an enriching learning environment that fostered a fruitful exchange of experiences and strengthened participants’ professional networks. During the program’s closing, which took place in Milan on November 25 and 26, attendees shared results and reflected on their learnings, emphasizing the combination of online sessions and face-to-face meetings in Madrid as a human and transformative experience.
The Complutense University of Madrid and Proportione reaffirm their commitment to developing innovative methodologies and facing the challenges of leadership in scientific and academic contexts. Detailed program information is available on the project’s website, perpetuating the ongoing effort to promote growth and innovation in the field of scientific leadership.
