On December 18th, the Official College of Pharmacists of Gipuzkoa (COFG) in San Sebastian will host a talk titled “ADHD Beyond the Label”, led by pharmacist Guillermo Iraola. The conference will begin at 12:00 PM and aims to offer a comprehensive and updated perspective on Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
Iraola, who received a late diagnosis of ADHD in his adult life, is the author of the book “(Almost) Everything I Know About ADHD. Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder: Findings and Reflections”. During his presentation, relevant topics such as the functioning of specific medication for ADHD and concerns arising from the shortage of some essential medications, especially sustained-release tablets, will be addressed. This shortage has led many professionals to resort to alternatives that may not be as effective, causing concern among affected families.
Over the past six years, Iraola has dedicated his efforts to researching ADHD, emphasizing the importance of a comprehensive treatment that not only includes medication but also complements with personalized psychosocial interventions and positive reinforcement strategies to enhance patient motivation.
The talk is open to the general public, after Iraola conducted a course on ADHD for over 150 pharmacists last September. Admission is free until full capacity is reached, allowing the community to participate in this important conversation about a disorder that affects a significant number of people.
