Teror, a beautiful town on the island of Gran Canaria, has been the setting for the XIV edition of the ‘Aguas de Teror Trail – Desafío de los Picos’, with a record participation of 1,108 runners who enjoyed impressive routes of 13 and 21 km. The event has shone not only for its excellent organization and safety measures, but also for highlighting the historical, cultural, and gastronomic attractions of Teror, establishing itself as a must-attend event for trail running enthusiasts.
At the heart of Gran Canaria lies Teror, a destination that blends history and nature in a charming environment. Known for its colonial architecture and vibrant culture, Teror offers visitors a unique experience with its cobbled streets and exquisite local cuisine.
Teror has been the epicenter of sports with the XIV edition of the ‘Aguas de Teror Trail – Desafío de los Picos’. This event, established in the mountain race calendar, attracted numerous participants and spectators. Prominent runners such as Oswaldo Medina, Josep Miret, Chema Martínez, Elsa Padrón, Moana Kehres, and Cristina Santurino participated.
In the 21 km distance, Josep Miret dominated, surpassing Oswaldo Medina and Valter Claudio Dos Santos. In the women’s category, Moana Kehres took the first place, followed by Cristina Santurino and Elsa Padrón. In the men’s category of 13 km, David Cruz claimed victory, followed by Cavikson Delgado and Alberto González. In the women’s category, Lorena Rodríguez took the top spot, with Cristina Gutiérrez and Elénise Semedo completing the podium.
“This year has been amazing. The participation has been impressive and the runners’ feedback has been very positive,” highlighted Yeray González, a member of the organizing team. With a participation of 1,108 runners, both local and international, the event exceeded all expectations. Participants enjoyed the challenging routes that offered spectacular panoramic views.
The ‘Aguas de Teror Trail – Desafío de los Picos’ has taken a significant step towards sustainability by starting to use recyclable fabric flags, with the aim of eliminating plastics. The goal is for the course to be 100% sustainable in two more editions. This initiative was well received by participants and organizers, who are committed to respecting and caring for the environment.
The event promoted the use of reusable containers, eliminating single-use plastics. Recycling containers were provided at refreshment stations and the finish line. In addition, the use of public transportation and carpooling among participants was encouraged.
To maintain the trails, a cleaning EcoRoute was organized before and after the event, involving volunteers in the conservation of the natural environment.
The event showcased the tourist attractions of Teror. The race attracted many runners who visited the municipality and were able to enjoy a program of parallel activities, including a race expo and talks on racing, nutrition, and training.
Many visitors took the opportunity to explore the old town, admire the architecture, and visit the Basilica of Our Lady of the Pine. The local gastronomic offer, famous for dishes such as wrinkled potatoes and Teror chorizo, was highly appreciated by all.
Registrations for 2025 will open in August and an even greater participation is expected, consolidating the ‘Aguas de Teror Trail – Desafío de los Picos’ as a must-attend event for trail running enthusiasts.
