Why Portugal is still a trendy destination and when to plan an affordable getaway, according to Kayak.

Portugal continues to captivate, and this summer is no exception: our neighboring country is positioning itself as one of the favorite destinations for Spanish travelers.

Trends come and go, but the charm of Portugal prevails. This is confirmed by searches on KAYAK, the world’s leading travel search engine: this destination continues to attract tourists from around the globe, with a 32% increase in flight searches compared to last summer.

The magic of its vibrant cities like Lisbon and Porto, the tranquility of its paradisiacal coasts, the authenticity of its traditional fishing villages, and the wild nature of its Atlantic islands are just some of the attractions that Portuguese destinations offer. In fact, Ponta Delgada (Azores) and Funchal (Madeira) are among the most popular European destinations for Spanish KAYAK users, with average round-trip flight prices of 283€ and 272€ respectively. In addition, Madeira is crowned as the most searched European destination, while the capital of the Azores ranks sixth, and both are among the top 10 most desired internationally.

In mainland Portugal, there is also much to explore. Porto retains the charm of a small Portuguese city and is the nerve center of a dream route through the north of the country, famous for its excellent wine tourism offer. Lisbon, with its viewpoints and fado music, captivates travelers and is a prime starting point to escape to Sintra or begin a route through the Portuguese Alentejo and its stunning Atlantic beaches. For sun lovers, the Faro region in the Algarve is a paradise full of hidden gems to discover.

But it’s not just the tourist attractions that make Portugal an attractive destination; prices also play a key role. According to KAYAK.es data, Madeira and the Azores are among the top 10 most budget-friendly international destinations, ranking 6th and 7th, with an average price of 1,074€ and 1,120€ per week of travel respectively.
