Microsoft has announced a new update for Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26120.1340 (KB5040557) in the Dev channel. This update provides a preview of improvements in the servicing technology in the 24H2 version of Windows 11. Insiders in the Dev channel will now receive updates through an enablement package (Build 26120.xxxx), allowing them to be the first to get the new features as they are implemented. Users who wish to receive these updates immediately can activate the option in Settings > Windows Update.
Among the changes and improvements being gradually implemented for Insiders who have this option enabled, include:
-
[Input]: The option to disable enhanced pointer precision is updated and a new option to change the mouse scroll direction is added.
-
[Voice Access]: Improvements in spelling and correction experience, allowing dictation of characters at higher speeds and offering more flexibility in editing with dictation commands.
-
[Power Saving]: Laptops on battery will receive a notification to connect the device if battery level reaches 20% when Power Saving is set to “Always On”.
- [Settings]: A new power recommendation is introduced to disable HDR on PCs with HDR displays under Settings > Power and battery > Power recommendations.
In addition, some issues have been fixed, such as the visible flickering of items under “Allow desktop apps to access your location” in Settings > Privacy and Security > Location.
Known issues include:
- [General]: Insiders in the Dev channel joining with PCs running Windows 11, version 24H2 Build 26100.xxxx will see “(fix version)” next to the latest Dev channel version in Windows Update.
- Issues when adding additional languages or optional features with error 0x800f081f.
- [Windows Sandbox]: Sandbox will fail to start with error 0x80370106.
- [Task Manager]: Navigating between different pages in Task Manager may cause it to freeze, and there is an issue with graphics on the Performance page when using dark mode.
- [Input]: Text suggestions for hardware keyboard do not work correctly, unexpectedly concatenating when selecting one.
The company reminds that updates released to the Dev channel are based on Windows 11, version 24H2, and features may change, be removed, or replaced over time. Insiders can report language localization issues through the Feedback Hub. In addition, some Insiders may get features first in the Beta channel, and the Copilot assistant in Windows will be gradually rolled out globally. Users in the European Economic Area can download this experience from the Microsoft Store.
