Today, Microsoft has unveiled a new update aimed at users of its Windows Insider program, releasing Build 26120.3380 (KB5053660), which will be available for the Dev and Beta channels. This update is part of the company’s ongoing efforts to improve Windows 11, specifically in its 24H2 version.
Users participating in the Beta channel will be able to choose to update to this new version at their convenience, as initially, the updates will be optional. However, it is anticipated that these updates will become the recommended option later in the year. This means that eventually, Beta Channel users will receive 24H2-based updates automatically.
Dev channel members will also have the opportunity to switch to the Beta channel as updates from the same build are released in both channels. However, it has been cautioned that this change may result in the temporary loss of some features, a state that will be available only while the same updates are continuing to be released in both paths.
Among the key features of this update is the introduction of “Recommended files” in File Explorer. This feature will allow users to quickly access relevant documents based on their recent activity, offering a carousel view with thumbnails of the most used and downloaded files.
Improvements are also being made to real-time translation functions and new elements are being added to the Start menu suggesting groups of commonly used applications. Furthermore, web search support in the taskbar will be enhanced, and a new notification will be included to ensure users do not lose access to their Microsoft accounts.
Web developers will now be able to create dynamic widgets using their existing content, expanding the customization capabilities of the Windows 11 interface. A new icon has also been added to the system tray for easy access to the emoji panel, available through a keyboard shortcut.
The update also includes various bug fixes aimed at enhancing the user experience in File Explorer, settings, and overall system performance. Despite the improvements, some users may still experience known issues, which are being addressed in future updates.
With these updates, Microsoft aims to not only optimize its operating system but also offer its users a smoother and more personalized experience.
