Microsoft has released the latest update to Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22635.4515 (KB5046756) for members of the Beta Channel. This new version includes various features, improvements, and fixes that are being gradually rolled out to users who have opted to receive the latest updates available.
One of the standout innovations is the ability to resume OneDrive files from a mobile phone to the PC with a single click. With this feature, users can continue editing Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, OneNote notebooks, and PDF files directly on their computer, as long as they use the same Microsoft account on both devices. This functionality streamlines the transition between devices and enhances productivity.
In a step towards a passwordless future, support for third-party passkey managers’ APIs has been introduced. This inclusion allows users to choose between external providers and the native Windows system for a more cohesive authentication experience, while maintaining the familiarity of Windows Hello.
Additionally, the update adds the option to quickly share local files directly from the Recommended section of the Start menu through a right-click. A new keyboard shortcut (CTRL + ALT + Minus) has also been included, allowing users utilizing Magnifier to quickly toggle between the current zoom and a 1X zoom, enhancing accessibility.
The update addresses various issues reported in File Explorer, such as errors when navigating paths in the address bar and unwanted content overlays in full-screen mode. Improvements have also been made to the performance of the context menu and the consistency of file thumbnails in the cloud.
Beta Channel users will continue to receive updates for Windows 11, version 23H2, through an enablement package. Microsoft has clarified that some features in development may not see the light of day, as they could be altered or removed based on user feedback.
Microsoft has also extended an invitation to third-party developers working with passkeys to integrate with Windows 11 in order to support this innovative form of authentication. More details about this integration are available through a link provided by Microsoft on their official blog.
