Globalan, S2 Grupo, and TRC Collaborate on the First Cybersecurity Center in the Canary Islands for 7.49 Million Euros.

The Government of the Canary Islands has awarded Globalan Telecomunicaciones, S2 Grupo, and TRC the contract to create the first Cybersecurity Center (CSIRT-CAN) with a value of 7.49 million euros. This important contract will contribute to the development of new capacities in the public administration and marks a milestone in the region’s cybersecurity strategy.

According to the three companies in a joint statement, the main objective of CSIRT-CAN is to develop a specialized cybersecurity center that will significantly improve the prevention, surveillance, and detection of threats in the computer systems of the Public Administration of the Canary Islands and the local entities that join the initiative.

The project, in which the three companies participate through a Temporary Business Union (UTE), has been financed by the European Union through the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan (PRTR).

Rafael Rosell, commercial director of S2 Grupo, highlighted that the creation of CSIRT-CAN represents a paradigm shift in the cybersecurity of the Canary Islands, as it will transition from an isolated system to a robust one connected to the Spanish CSIRT network. This change will allow for improvements to be extended to the municipalities and, in turn, increase the cybersecurity protection of the Canary citizens.

This incident response center will support, provide support, and enhance surveillance and response capabilities in cybersecurity jointly and coordinated with the Government of the Canary Islands’ Corporate SOC, which will continue to manage the security of the government’s information systems and networks.

Pedro Pablo Perez, General Director of TRC, stated that projects like this demonstrate Spain’s drive to offer advanced technological solutions in cybersecurity. He added that being part of this initiative provides them with the opportunity to contribute to technological development in the Canary Islands and improve cybersecurity. Perez also emphasized the CSIRT’s commitment to increase awareness and knowledge in cybersecurity matters.

Additionally, the new center will be fundamental in strengthening the digital security infrastructure in the region, ensuring a more robust protection of sensitive data and enhancing the resilience of computer systems against cyber threats.

In this context, the role of Globalan as a local integrator is crucial. The company will provide a deep understanding of the environment and ensure the project’s continuity, being essential for its long-term success and sustainability. Carlos Rodriguez, CEO of Globalan, emphasized that the initiative to promote this UTE is based on their profound knowledge of the environment. He also assured that they will invest in training and promoting future professionals in Canarian universities and specialized vocational training centers.
