Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Spain are facing a growing challenge due to the increase in targeted cyberattacks against them. Recent studies have revealed that half of these companies have fallen victim to some form of security breach in the past year. This situation has raised significant concern and led Trevenque Group, a prominent technology group, to issue an urgent call to companies to strengthen their cybersecurity measures.
The Cyber Security Breaches Survey 2024 report, prepared by the UK government’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), reflects an alarming trend: cybercriminals are increasingly targeting vulnerable organizations. According to the report, 50% of businesses and 32% of NGOs have experienced cyberattacks, underscoring the crucial importance of cybersecurity for SMEs handling large volumes of valuable data.
Furthermore, a study by SecurList, owned by Kaspersky, indicates that infections in the SME sector have increased by over 5%. This increase reveals a concerning landscape where threats are not only more frequent but also more sophisticated. Francisco José López Medina, Information Security Manager at Trevenque Group, emphasizes the need for awareness and the implementation of appropriate measures to protect business assets.
To address these risks, Trevenque Group advises companies to follow a series of essential steps. Recommendations include using secure and unique passwords, activating two-factor authentication, keeping software up-to-date with security patches, and regularly backing up data. It is also essential to train employees in cybersecurity practices to reduce the risk of human errors that could compromise security.
