The Ministry of Industry and Tourism has announced the second call for the PERTE Chip, an ambitious strategic program with an allocated budget of 110 million euros. This initiative is part of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, and aims to promote projects in the value chain of microelectronics and semiconductors, a vital sector to ensure Europe’s technological autonomy.
The call is structured in two sections. The first, with 90 million euros, is aimed at Important Projects of Common European Interest (IPCEI). The second section, starting in this call, has a total of 110 million euros that will be allocated to grants to promote initiatives that strengthen this critical value chain.
Those interested in participating in the first section can submit their applications from 9:00 on January 13 until 14:00 on January 31, 2025. It is important to note that the first edition of the PERTE Chip, which allocated 65.4 million euros, set a precedent in efforts to reduce Europe’s dependence on external markets in the field of microelectronics.
This program aims to strengthen the design and production capabilities of the microelectronics industry in Spain, and thus contribute to the strategic autonomy of the continent in this sector, especially after the chip supply crisis that has severely affected the automotive industry. Strengthening these capabilities not only creates a competitive advantage at a national level, but also ensures a more secure and less vulnerable supply chain in global crises.
