License Plate Recognition: Transforming Parking Access and Payment

The recent implementation of license plate recognition systems in parking lots across different Spanish cities is transforming the parking experience. This innovative technology, developed in collaboration with Bip&Drive, allows drivers to access over 300 parking lots without having to wait in line or use tickets, representing a radical change in the management of these spaces.

In an urban context characterized by increasing congestion and a shortage of parking spaces, license plate recognition emerges as an efficient solution. By registering their license plate in advance on the Bip&Drive app, users can enter and exit parking lots quickly and hassle-free. This advancement eliminates the need for manual procedures, optimizing drivers’ time.

The system operates intuitively: high-resolution cameras detect license plates as vehicles enter and exit the parking lot. Through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology, the images are converted into digital data allowing for real-time verification. Thus, the license plate is linked to the Bip&Drive account, enabling automatic barrier opening and a seamless payment process, without queues or unnecessary wait times.

In addition to improving vehicle flow, this system offers multiple benefits for drivers. Eliminating the need to print tickets enables uninterrupted access, and simplifying the automatic payment process reduces the driver’s workload by eliminating the search for cash or cards. This improvement also contributes to sustainability by reducing wait times and, consequently, CO2 emissions.

Backed by Bip&Drive, which has evolved from its inception in 2015 as a toll platform to become the largest payment platform for drivers in Spain, users now have the ability to locate nearby parking lots, plan routes, and enjoy an automated payment process when leaving. This advancement not only redefines the act of parking but also transforms the overall travel experience, promoting smoother and more efficient mobility.

Bip&Drive, with over 1.3 million users and around 33,000 associated businesses, is also committed to collaborating with public administrations to implement more innovative and sustainable mobility models in the future. This commitment translates into a positive impact on both the quality of life of citizens and the sustainability of the urban environment.
