Registrations are now open for the first legal update course on human rights in the European Union.

The International Baltasar Garzón Foundation (FIBGAR) has announced the call for the “Course on updating human rights issues in the European Union framework”. This event will take place on October 21, 22, and 23 at the Círculo de Bellas Artes, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm.

The main objective of the course is to provide a quality deepening and updating on the main novelties adopted by the last European legislature, with a practical approach based on human rights. Professionals specialized in each of the subjects will be responsible for teaching the classes.

It is mainly aimed at students of legal or related subjects, public officials, and professionals from various disciplines who need to be aware of events in the European Union, and who are interested in having more tools for understanding and addressing current issues related to human rights.

Since European Union law is dynamic and constantly changing, it is crucial for professionals to stay updated on legislative issues. In the last European legislature, various initiatives have been adopted that will shape the debate in the coming years.

The course will be offered for free, with no need to pay tuition. The training sessions will address three fundamental aspects: the relationship between companies and human rights (including topics such as the business duty of care directive, the European law on artificial intelligence, and digital market regulations); the current challenges of freedom of expression and information (analyzing the anti-SLAPP directive, the European Media Freedom Law, and European disinformation and policies); and the progressive criminal harmonization in the European Union, covering the directive on environmental crimes, the directive on human trafficking, and the directive on gender-based violence.

The detailed course program is available here.

The registration deadline is October 7 and interested parties can register by filling out the registration form.

This initiative is co-financed by the European Union State Secretariat of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union, and Cooperation.
