The Official College of Dentists and Stomatologists of Catalonia (COEC) has undergone a significant transformation in recent years, focusing on strengthening its financial stability and advancing the digitalization of its services. This strategy has allowed COEC to establish itself as a modern and efficient institution, designed to meet the demands of dentists in Catalonia.
Economically, COEC has made notable progress, including the early cancellation of the mortgages on its headquarters in Barcelona in April 2023, six years ahead of schedule. This measure has resulted in a savings of over 500,000 euros in interest, reinforcing its financial management. There has also been a 62.50% reduction in personnel expenses and rationalization of other items, resulting in a surplus of over 626,000 euros in 2023. Additionally, there has been a cumulative 52% reduction in the membership fee, achieving uniformity in this fee for all members in the region.
From a digital perspective, COEC has implemented changes to facilitate the modernization of the services offered. The Virtual Campus, accessible from anywhere, has become an essential resource for the continuous training of professionals in the sector. Furthermore, the REMPe platform has been launched to manage private electronic prescriptions, streamlining the prescription processes nationwide. This service is completely free for members, thanks to COEC’s own funding.
Other digital initiatives include the Virtual Office for Collegiate Attention (OVAC), which allows for remote and efficient processing of procedures. Additionally, the development of a mobile application since 2019 allows users to access services such as a digital membership card and obtain certificates through QR codes, as well as other useful materials.
