The renovation of “Villa Amonita” in Lanzarote by the Czech architecture firm OOOOX has won the APE Grupo Architecture Awards. This award, now in its second year, aims to highlight excellence in architectural practice, particularly the innovative use of ceramics.
Presided over by the esteemed architect Francisco Mangado, who has been awarded the Gold Medal of Fine Arts, along with designer Francesc Rifé and Susana Babiloni, president of the Architects’ Association of Castellón, the jury reviewed 47 projects from around the world, highlighting the international appeal of this edition.
“Villa Amonita” was praised for its ability to blend the dramatic volcanic landscape of Lanzarote with its architectural design, particularly for its smooth white materials and ceramics. The jury appreciated the balance between the villa’s exterior and interior, creating an effective dialogue between nature and the building. The use of colors and materials stood out for their simplicity and elegance, creating an atmosphere that enhances the experience of island life in a refined and appealing way.
Additionally, the jury awarded an honorable mention to the “Caruso Restaurant” in Santo Domingo, designed by Arquimilio, for its fresh approach and the development of a unique architectural language. The project is noted for its vibrant intensity and the subtle way Caribbean traditional elements are integrated into the interior spaces, offering a unique scenographic and mannerist experience.
The APE Grupo Architecture Awards, open to professionals and projects from all over the globe, include a prize of 5,000 euros, acknowledging creativity and excellence in contemporary architecture.
