Transportation formalizes works to improve pedestrian and bicycle crossings on VA-20 in Valladolid.

The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has formalized a 12.8 million euro (including VAT) project to adapt a 10.3 kilometer stretch of the VA-20 road in Valladolid city to accommodate pedestrians and bicycles. Among other actions, a 10 km long bike lane will be built and measures to calm traffic in the area will be implemented.

Specifically, the urbanization works will take place between kilometers 0 and 10.300 of the road, on the inner ring of the capital, in the stretch between the roundabout connecting with the N-620a (Av. de Burgos) and the roundabout at the beginning of the VA-30 (both included).

The formalization of the contract is one of the final administrative steps before the start of the works. Once the contract is formalized, there is a regulatory deadline for the survey act verification and the start of the works. The corresponding announcement will be published soon in the Official State Gazette (BOE).

The works aim to integrate the VA-20 road into the urban environment in the stretch between the roundabout connecting with the N-620a and the roundabout at the beginning of the VA-30, both roundabouts included. This is a beautification project that seeks to promote sustainable mobility in the area, improving road safety and quality of life for residents.

The works will include various actions such as:
– Construction of a new bike path, properly marked and equipped with LED lighting.
– Conditioning of new green areas.
– Measures to calm traffic (reducing the maximum speed to 50 km/h, adjusting vertical signage and signage, and reducing both lanes to a width of 6.5m).
– Structural rehabilitation of the road surface.

Once the works are completed, the stretch will be handed over to the Valladolid City Council in accordance with Order TMA/1160/2021, of October 8, which establishes the framework for the transfer agreements of urban roads from the state network to municipalities.

This project is part of the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan which aims to improve the urban integration of the city’s thoroughfares.
