Transportes starts the urban integration works of Sagunto Avenue in Teruel.

The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has announced the start of the works for the “Urban integration of the state road network in Teruel for sustainable mobility improvement”, which are part of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan funded by the European Union Next Generation EU. These works have a budget of 6.4 million euros (VAT included).

The project will focus on Sagunto Avenue (N-223) in Teruel and aims to integrate this road into the city’s urban environment, improving road safety by expanding pedestrian space, calming traffic, and promoting sustainable mobility with reserved spaces for personal mobility vehicles.

The actions will begin with the demolition of existing sidewalks, replacement of affected services, and the construction of new sidewalks. Paving works and the creation of the lane for personal mobility vehicles will be carried out at the end of the project. Lighting installation will also be included at the main entrances to Teruel, specifically at the downtown junction of the A-23, the junction of the Teruel N-234 bypass in the La Paz industrial estate, and the Villaspesa junction.

Once the works are completed, the road section will be transferred to the Municipality of Teruel in accordance with Order TMA/1160/2021, of October 8, which establishes the framework for the transfer of urban roads from the state network to municipalities.

This intervention is part of the Recovery Plan, which aims to improve the urban integration of at least 34 sections of the State Road Network in various Spanish cities.
