Since 2005, and currently in coordination with the Sahrawi Delegation in Spain, the foster parents of the children who arrive through this program can accompany them to the collaborating opticians of the Cione Ruta de la Luz Foundation where they have their vision checked and, if needed, receive a new pair of glasses, free of charge for the families.
The Cione Ruta de la Luz Foundation is already prepared for the arrival of the Sahrawi children from the “Vacations in Peace” program. In 2024, the arrival of approximately 2930 minors is expected.
Since 2005, now in coordination with the Sahrawi Delegation in Spain, the foster parents of the children who arrive through the program can accompany them to the opticians affiliated with the Cione Ruta de la Luz Foundation project throughout Spain.
Volunteer opticians check their vision and, if needed, the Foundation provides them with a new pair of glasses free of charge. For the third consecutive year, the Cione Ruta de la Luz Foundation has the collaboration of the “La Caixa” Foundation and the Amara NextGen Foundation in this project, focusing their efforts on the future of new generations, especially vulnerable children and youths, as well as sustainability and access to renewable energy.
Foster parents who want to learn more about the service should contact the Sahrawi Delegation in Spain or the Sahrawi Delegation in their autonomous community. Sahrawi children have started to arrive in Spain since the end of June.
The “Vacation in Peace” program allows Sahrawi children to live during the summer months with a family in Spain, outside of refugee camps, giving them the opportunity to experience a new culture and language, something unattainable for them in their place of origin. Another benefit of the program is that it encourages children to undergo general health check-ups and correct their vision problems during their stay in Spain.
Since 2005, the Cione Ruta de la Luz Foundation has provided more than 2,500 new glasses to children in need of visual correction, while also conducting around 3,600 comprehensive vision tests for the children who arrive in Spain through this program.
